Worse, it’s not just the short and the long sounds either, W is a vowel and is pronounced ‘oo’ but in several different ways, while Y actually has four pronunciations. Thank goodness there is no place in Tethera named Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwll- llantysiliogogogoch!
